June 6, 2009 - AVSIM recovering!
I have just been abroad for a little while and discovered that AVSIM is recovering. The original website is back on line together with the forums. We are only waiting now for the library, which, according to the last messages, has been
recuperated to a large extent.
May 21, 2009 - AVSIM problem - Removed links for flightplans

May 17, 2009 - AVSIM attacked (cont'd)
The disappearance of  AVSIM's library creates as a matter of course also problems to lots of sites containing links to AVSIM for downloading
applicaties, aircraft and scenery. With respect to the latter, this hacking event also hit Robert-Jan Oosterloo, who catalogued meticously all freeware scenery on his site, what resulted in a real scenery guide for the whole sim community.  Eighty percent of his links are now worthless and it would be a hell of a job to search for other possible links for each scenery file.
While
in the temporary AVSIM forums, Tom Allensworth and coworkers are without any hesitation accused of negligence and shortcoming in the way of handling their backups, we have to keep our heads cool and think of the future. The positive note is that AVSIM has the courage to continue. Probably there will be shortly a new library, so that those who uploaded their files at the time can do it again. In this way, lots of files can be recovered. Will be continued...
May 14, 2009 - AVSIM attacked by hackers !
The site of AVSIM could not be reached since a few days. It seems now that on May 12 the servers of AVSIM have been attacked by hackers.  In how far the software dammage can be repaired is still the question. In any case AVSIM continues, even with the help of everyone to build up a good library again. The temporary AVSIM forum with the latest information can be found here.

Jan 9, 2009 - Aircraft spotting in FS9
After you installed lots of AI aircraft and flightplans you will undoubtly
be interested in seeing the result of your AI traffic and spotting the aircraft on an airport. A fantastic aid in this matter is the freeware Traffic View Board by Hans Jurgen Merkel and Arnt Helge Haaland. This "board" gives according to your choice a list of arriving, departing, on ground or in flight aircraft at a certain airport. The principle of this Traffic Board is in fact a panel from fictive aircraft. So, you put this fictive aircraft somewhere (in slew mode) and select the radius of observation (don't put it too high or you get information about all neighboring airports) and you can follow the traffic. By clicking on the arrow next to each flight you get extended  information about that flight. Thus, a very interesting gadget that even works better than its commercial brother. To be downloaded on AVSIM: programme, AI tutorial and update. (found in Virtual Sky - IVAO magazine)
